Joining SIPES Houston takes about ten minutes. The application is online, you sign it on screen, and there is nothing to print, scan or mail.

Which membership is right for me?

Full An earth scientist with twelve or more years of experience, counting time spent working toward a degree. Includes membership of SIPES National.
Junior An earth scientist earlier in their career. Includes membership of SIPES National.
Limited For those who are employed rather than self-employed. Includes membership of SIPES National.
Chapter Affiliate Houston Chapter only, for people associated with an enterprise engaged in the earth sciences, and for earth science students. One sponsor instead of three, and a faster approval. Many members start here and apply to National later.

Not sure? Pick the one that sounds closest. We will tell you if another category suits you better, and changing it is no trouble.

SIPES has a membership reciprocity agreement with the Division of Professional Affairs of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and with the Society of Petroleum Evaluation Engineers.

What happens next

  1. You submit the application and sign it on screen. A signed copy is emailed to you straight away.
  2. We contact your sponsors for you. You do not have to chase them.
  3. The Houston board reviews your application. For the National categories, SIPES National reviews it afterwards.
  4. You pay your chapter dues, and we send you a certificate.

You can check your progress at any time using the link we email you, and we will write to you whenever your status changes.
