SIPES Houston brings together independent earth scientists, engineers and energy professionals across the Houston area. Membership opens the door to our monthly luncheon lectures, the chapter directory, the Deal Buyers List and a network of colleagues who work the same way you do.

You sign on screen, your answers save as you go, and there is nothing to print or mail. We contact your sponsors for you.

Membership categories

Choose the category that fits. If another one suits you better, we will tell you, and changing it is no trouble.

Full Member

For independent, self-employed earth scientists with twelve or more years of professional experience. Time spent earning a degree counts toward the twelve.

Three sponsors. Includes SIPES National membership.

Limited Member

For earth scientists who meet the Full Member requirements but are employed rather than self-employed.

Three sponsors. Includes SIPES National membership.

Junior Member

For earth scientists with at least eight years of professional experience who have not yet reached the twelve required for Full membership.

Three sponsors. Includes SIPES National membership.

Houston Chapter Affiliate

Affiliate membership of SIPES Houston, for professionals associated with the earth sciences and energy business, and for earth science students. It does not include SIPES National membership. Some Affiliates later apply to SIPES National separately.

One sponsor and a quicker approval. No SIPES National dues.

Houston Chapter Affiliate is local participation only. It is not membership in SIPES, does not include a SIPES number or Seal, and does not confer a vote or eligibility for elected office.

Members of AAPG’s Division of Professional Affairs or of SPEE in good standing do not need sponsors for Full, Limited or Junior membership, under SIPES’s reciprocity agreements with the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and the Society of Petroleum Evaluation Engineers. Tick the box on the application and give your number.

How joining works

The steps depend on the category you choose. Either way, you apply online, we handle your sponsors, and we email you at every step.

Joining SIPES National
Full, Limited or Junior

Apply. Complete one application, which covers both SIPES National and the Houston chapter, and name three sponsors. We contact them for you.

Houston board approval. The Houston board reviews your application first.

SIPES National approval. SIPES National then reviews it and sends you instructions for paying National dues.

Pay your dues. Pay your SIPES National dues to National, and your $100 Houston chapter dues here on sipeshouston.org.

Welcome. SIPES National issues your certificate and Seal, presented at a Houston board meeting, and you join the chapter directory.

Joining as a Houston Chapter Affiliate
SIPES Houston only

Apply. Complete the Houston Chapter Affiliate application and name one sponsor. We contact them for you.

Houston board approval. The Houston board reviews your application. There is no SIPES National review.

Pay your dues. Pay your $100 Houston chapter dues here on sipeshouston.org. There are no SIPES National dues.

Welcome. You join the chapter directory, and your Houston Chapter Affiliate certificate is mailed to you.

Already an Affiliate, and ready to join SIPES National?

Apply online for Full, Limited or Junior membership, with three sponsors, using the same email address as your Affiliate membership. We recognize you automatically: the Houston board’s earlier approval carries over, so there is no second chapter vote, and your chapter dues are not paid twice. SIPES National then reviews your application, and once approved you pay National dues and receive your SIPES certificate and Seal.

Members of AAPG’s Division of Professional Affairs or of SPEE do not need sponsors for Full, Limited or Junior membership (see above). You can follow any application through the link we email you.

Dues

$100 a year for every category of Houston chapter membership, renewing each January 1.

Full, Limited and Junior members also pay SIPES National dues, directly to SIPES National, once National has approved them. Your chapter membership renews automatically each year, and you can switch automatic renewal off at any time under My Account on this website.

A public directory where companies and investors can find independent geoscientists, engineers, landmen and energy attorneys. Every member of SIPES Houston, including Houston Chapter Affiliates, will be able to list a professional profile at no charge, marked as verified by the chapter.

Printed applications are available for Full membership, Limited membership and Houston Chapter Affiliate membership. The online application is quicker, and we recommend it.
