The Houston Chapter of the Society of Independent Professional Earth
Scientists (“SIPES Houston,” “we,” “us”) respects the privacy of our members,
applicants, and website visitors. This policy explains what information we
collect, why we collect it, and what we do with it.

Who we are

SIPES Houston is a non-profit professional association for independent and
consulting earth scientists. Our website is

Information we collect

• Membership applications. Name, mailing and business
  address, email address, phone number, employer, professional history,
  education, and the names of your sponsors. We collect this because it is what
  a membership application requires.
• Dues and event payments. Purchases are processed by our
  payment provider. We receive a record of what was bought and by whom. We
  never see or store your full card number.
• Event registrations. Name, contact details, and any meal or
  accessibility preferences you provide.
• Website usage. Standard server logs and cookies needed for
  the site and shopping cart to function.

How we use it

We use your information to process your membership application, keep the
chapter roster and member directory, collect dues, run luncheons and events, and
send you information about the chapter. We do not use it for anything else.

Text messages (SMS)

If you provide a mobile number and check the box consenting to text messages,
we may send you texts about the status of your membership application, dues
reminders, and chapter luncheons and events.

• Consent to receive text messages is optional and is never
  required to apply for membership, join the chapter, or attend an event.
• Message frequency varies. Most members receive only a handful of messages
  per year.
• Message and data rates may apply.
• Reply STOP to any message to opt out at any time. Reply
  HELP for assistance, or email
  admin@sipeshouston.org.
• No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All of the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.

Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not rent or trade it. We
share information only with the service providers that operate the chapter’s systems on our behalf — our website host, our payment processor, and our email provider — and only to the extent they need it to perform that service for us. Text messaging opt-in data and consent are never shared with any third party. We may share member information with SIPES National as part of the
national membership application process, which is a necessary step in becoming a
SIPES member.

We may disclose information if required by law.

The member directory

Members appear in our chapter directory, which is available to other members.
If you would prefer your details withheld from the directory, email us and we
will remove them.

How long we keep it

We keep membership records for as long as you are a member and afterwards as
part of the chapter’s historical records. Application documents are retained as
required for the chapter’s recordkeeping. You may ask us to correct or remove
your information at any time.

Your choices

You can ask us to see, correct, or delete the information we hold about you;
unsubscribe from our emails using the link in any message; stop text messages by
replying STOP; and ask to be left out of the member directory. Email
admin@sipeshouston.org and we will
take care of it.

Children

Our website and membership are intended for professional adults. We do not
knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page.
